10 years ago we decided to differentiate ourselves from the other resorts of Fuerteventura and set on a segment largely unknown in 2005.

 Within 10 years our resort strongly evolved with its new facilities. We celebrated great success with sports such as triathlon and trailrun – but also we made mistakes we made up for with strong willpower and a smile.

We hold a high number of repeated customers, receive support from the island´s institutions and have a professional and highly-motivated team, giving its best each day in pursuing the target to offer our clients the best active holidays of their lives.

Cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) classes at Playitas Resort

Cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) is a lifesaving technique useful in many emergencies, including heart attack or near drowning, in which someone’s breathing or heartbeat has stopped.

Because we take life seriously, a four days cardiopulmonary resuscitation classes have been taken by our colleagues. And the reason is you. Many of our guests are practicing some kind of sport during their stay at Playitas Resort.

At this time you’re wondering the best way to help someone who is unconscious ??

First, you need to find out if he/she is unconscious, asleep or drunk, by squeezing the skin between their neck and shoulder and shouting.

If there is no response at all, you need to establish if they are dead or just unconscious – sometimes it’s very difficult to tell the difference.

Open the airway by placing one hand on their forehead and gently tilting the head back while lifting the chin.

If the patient is breathing and has a pulse but is still not waking, call an ambulance then put them in the ‘recovery’ position. Lie them on their back and kneel next to them before placing the arm closest to you straight, but at a right angle to the body.

If there are no signs of life – no obvious pulse and their chest is not going up and down – call an ambulance and then start cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) to maintain a flow of oxygenated blood to the brain and heart.

Lift the knee closest to you up, and roll them towards you onto their side, so that their chin is touching their arm. Their knee can remain bent.

 

This position stops them from choking on any vomit and allows them to breathe unimpeded, despite being unconscious.

Three important points about CPR:

Call: Check the victim for unresponsiveness. If the person is not responsive and not breathing or not breathing normally. Call 112 and return to the victim. In most locations the emergency dispatcher can assist you with CPR instructions

Pump: If the victim is still not breathing normally, coughing or moving, begin chest compressions.  Push down in the center of the chest 5 centimeters 30 times. Pump hard and fast at the rate of at least 100/minute, faster than once per second

Blow: Tilt the head back and lift the chin. Pinch nose and cover the mouth with yours and blow until you see the chest rise. Give 2 breaths.  Each breath should take 1 second.

Summer is coming and so are the salads !

We just love the feeling of summer standing at the doorsteps! People start getting worried about their figure, they start exercising and changing their eating habits.

A great way to get into that summer feeling (and to do something about that shape!) is starting to eat salads.

Now, when it comes to salads, all is permitted. A salad is a food item that can be a reflection of ones personality, creativity and mood.

What is good in a salad? that is one of these questions one cannot answer unless you state, it all depends…

At Playitas Resort we have the obligation to be health conscience and have started to create a new menu of salads. Our chef has come up with some 5 different recipes and we have tasted these with much interest and pleasure but we thought it might be much more interesting to get our guests involved. That is why we  on our social media – facebook, twitter and instagram – launch a cry out to our followers to come up with their own recipe and take the chance to get their favorite salad on the menu of the Da Luigi restaurant. If that fancies you too, you might want to dig into them and get your recipe posted. It is quite simple, the recipe that gets liked the most will be tested by our chef and will be incorporated into the menu.

A salad is also a great tool for those big lunchers to give their eating free range and devour as much as they want, that is, if the salad is composed in a healthy way. Ah, you might say, did you not state earlier that salads are very healthy and a way to get something done for that summer figure? Yes I did but it needs to be stated that some guidelines need to be followed if the salad needs to qualify for the health section. Firstly, try to avoid any mixes of mayonnaise to put to the salads (except if you use Vegennaise, a type of mayonnaise without any animal based elements). Secondly, take care of the individual components of the salad. If you use meat and cheeses into the salads, this will add to the calorie counter! But even so, a salad is still much lighter than most dishes out there. Combine this with a healthy glass of water or a nicely chilled glass of white wine (yes, Rose wine is allowed) and you are on the right track.

Eating the ‘right way’.

Ok, I am just a normal guy.  I do not have a nutritional degree nor am I a doctor. I am just a normal average guy who decided to have a closer look at what I am eating and what anyone eats in a normal way.

We all know what the society has as problems fighting the over weight new generation of kids and the actual generation of teenagers.  How did we get this far? It is obvious, nobody seems to bother anymore about being interested how they eat or better, what they eat.

I get tremendously frustrated when I walk into a supermarket and get overwhelmed by whole rows of healthy food products. I mean, just read the labels of all these products.  One tries to outperform the next sketching the health effects their products have on the human body. If it were the case that these products were that healthy (at the point of becoming super human) than why is it that we do not have a healthy generation of people walking around? Ah, you say, that is because we still have the freedom of choice.  We can decide if we eat those health products or not (and most of us do not).  But, is it not healthiest to get Mother Nature in your tummy instead of all these prefabricated products that have been treated so you can store them for the next 7 years? Well, than we get to the element of not having time to prepare, taste, create, elaborate.  We have become a nation of minute time counters… The less we do, the better it is, at least that is what our brains have become masters at.  We also seem to work incredible hours which leads us to notime at all for food matters.  Or is that a subject of productivity better left untouched? The fact is, we do not have time!

At Playitas Resort, we do make time for these things.  Actually, it one of the most important things.  We elaborate healthy dishes for you to savor without you having to lift a finger.  We work with local products, fresh of the day so that we do not have to bother with food elements that can be shelved for decades.

It is true that we do not just offer the healthy stuff, we also offer the more calorie based dishes but that has a good reason, you are on holidays at Playitas Resort and we do not want to create an environment that reflect the most draconian lifestyle change you have ever seen or lived.  Instead we offer the possibility to a gradual adaptation (don’t get me wrong, if you want the draconian way, we can offer you that).

 But even so, combining this with some exercise (another element we have no time for it seems) leads us to a far healthier way of living than we know now.  Why not take a first step and get some expert advice at the Resort before you start changing?

But remember, we have the stuff, you need to muster the will to change.

Oh and one more thing, it is not complicated, in fact, it is rather simple to change. Just free your mind!

Going for a run in the morning has many advantages. It does not necessarily have to be a long run but it is recommended to keep it up for at least 30 minutes. There is nothing better than starting the work day with a refreshing activity like running. It gets your blood circulation going, it stimulates the fat burning process and in general, gives you a feeling of having already accomplished an important thing. I can hear you think… ‘yeah but I have to get up so early to go run?’ No way! Think about this. Try to go run with someone you know. The fact of running with someone does make it easier at the hour of getting out of bed (you feel like you cannot let the other person down). Try changing your running routes. Running is one of these sports that are normally not restricting you of going in one particular direction. Make it interesting, go and discover your surroundings. We are sure you do not know your surroundings that good and in that way (driving by in a car is not the same!). Running is life, just free your mind and go out there!
